Browning High School

Browning High School, located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, Montana, preserves the rich history of the tribe by integrating Blackfeet Indian culture throughout the design. The main entrance recalls elements of a tipi, and faces east to greet the creator of the sun each morning. Inside, traditional Blackfeet colors are incorporated and circular elements in the classrooms encourage students to arrange their desks in a circle, the way people would traditionally gather in a medicine lodge or a tipi. The facility was designed in partnership with Fanning Howey Architecture.
